In need a gear guidance

Hello all!
first time poster in need of some input. I currently use a pretty basic setup, but I'm looking to upgrade in order to improve my sound. My gear setup now: Blue Bluebird -> Presonus Audiobox USB -> Macbook Pro(running presonus studio one)-> KRK Rokit 5's. I mainly record hip-hop/rap artists as well as make beats incorporating my Akai XR20. I want to improve my vocal recordings, as well as the quality of my instrumentals. If you guys could point me in the right direction as to where I should go from here it would be much appreciated. Money of course is tight, but i'm willing to shell out for quality.

Thanks!

Hi, welcome to Gearslutz.

In terms of improving your vocal chain, the Blue Bluebird is a pretty good mic for the price. You could improve your vocal chain by introducing a higher quality pre amp than the ones I believe you are using in your Presonus interface.

A good shout would be the Focusrite ISA One or Grace Design M101.

When you say the quality of your instruments, can you explain what you mean? What instruments do you want to improve and what sort of improvement are you looking for?

Also, in terms of improving your sound quality cheaply, what plugins are you using?

r.e. improving your vocal recordings, you might want to look into room treatment also. It can make quite a difference.

The Presonus DigiMax D8 at only $399 will surprise you. If you have the budget, go for the Langevin Dual Vocal Pro at around $2000. It will take you to a new level.

There are thousands of tips that can be written for your question. I list one or 2 for you as its a very general and broad questino you ask.

There also are no correct answers as each track in a song will need different things done to it in order tomake it sound, as you put it, "improved."

For vocals, your room is very important, so make sure you have a treated room and try different areas of your room when recording vocals. Then you listen to it in context in your song withall the other tracks playing and you add and do what ever it takes to get you to that sound your after..

For Instruments, the room, just like your voclas is very important and then you would listen to it in contyexxt of your song and maybe eQ it or add any of the hundred of effects that get you to where you want to be at.

Thank you all for the quick responses. I am definitely looking into pre amps to improve my vocal chain, but I was also wondering if it would be worth it to upgrade my interface all together. Or maybe both? I currently don't use many plug ins, so any suggestions would be gladly welcomed! I won't be recording many live instruments in this space, so vocals are my focus, but i will be making instrumentals using my drum machine and midi instruments.
My room is untreated as of now, but I just moved into a new space, and it is on my "to do" list as soon at i've settled in.
Any other suggestions as well as tips/tricks, and gear options are greatly appreciated!

Your most valuable pieces of gear are your ears. Improve your monitoring chain and your sound will improve.
