Switch from EMU Tracker Pre to Focusrite Scarlett 2i2?

Hi there,

I own a EMU Tracker Pre. I am happy with the sound quality, but the drivers are a complete horror. They never worked, on neither XP, Vista or Windows 7 on several computers. Audio gets distorted or drops out after a couple of seconds/minutes and there are always glitches, no matter how high I set the latency to.

So I would like to get a new audio interface and I am looking at the Focusrite Scarlett 2i2, mainly because it is also fully supported under Linux, which I also use a lot.

However, I can see from the specs of both, that at least on paper, the EMU is way better than the Focusrite. Does anyone have experience with both interfaces and can give me a direct comparison. I wonder if I will be disappointed with the audio quality of the Scarlett.

Thanks in advance!

There's a thread on Focusrite Scarlett interfaces that you can find using the search. Many people seem to have had issues with the driver, I personally didn't

Hi fladd,

There were a couple of issues with the original driver but please be assured these have now been resolved, so be wary of reading older posts with people with issues.

If you have any questions about the 2i2 please let me know.

Best regards,

Thanks for the answer.
I am not worried about driver performance, I am more interested in sound quality. I am curious if there will be more noise on the preamps or on the output for instance, compared to the EMU.

I have a 2i2, sounds great so far, even greater for the price and drivers are a non issue on Win 7/64. The only quibbles I have to report is clipping when plugging-in my active bass, I have to reduce the bass output as the 2i2 is already on minimum, and the headphone out is just loud enough with Beyer DT990, a little more would have been nice.

Preamps are better than its predecessor, a Line6 Toneport which was not bad, I didn't notice any hiss with a large diaphram microphone which has low output as reported by other users, converters are excellent, output of the 2i2 is audibly better. I like the design and the build quality is ok, even excellent for the price. Asio performance wise I'm at 12ms without tweaking on i2500K/8GB, no noticable lag when I'm recording without direct monitor, very happy camper here
