Thread Starter | ONYX 1220 Firewire VS ONYX 400f
Hello all, I currently own an onyx 1220 board with the firewire card. I recently became aware that the inserts are post firewire so basically I can't use outboard gear. The 400f has better converters and 2 inserts. I don't really need an analog mixer so is there any reason why I shouldn't make the swicth? Your input is appreciated.

As an owner of both (well I sold the Firewire card because I got a good deal on the entire package and ended up paying only $200 to keep the mixer) anyway, if you don't need an analog mixer, then hell, there is no reason why you shouldn't be switching to the 400f. If you are going to sell, I advise piecing the card (I sold mine for $330 used) and the mixer out separately. You will have more than enough to make the switch.

I have a 400f now, but have used the 1640 extensively with my former band (now about 5000 miles away) they are both great. If you really dont' need aan analog mixer, the 400f should be fine. Personally, I am thinking of getting a shure auxpander or something for analog purposes, cause I miss having an analog mixer, but the 400f is great for what it is, and lives up to the specs. If the specs are what you want, go with it.

So the 400f is better than the 1220, yet if you would rather use a hands-on mixer, than the 1220 would be your choice, right? I mean, if the 1220 and 400f looked exactly the same (i.e. no analog mixer, no buttons, no big console), then the 400f is the hands-down choice, right? |
