Hi, I'm looking for some drum overheads...Kel HM 1 or Audio Technica AT 2020? Or something else for $100 a pop, Thanks

matched pair of studio projects C4 for $300. $100 over, but you will know where it went.

The C4 pack works well for overheads. The bit of roughness in the high end gives the cymbals a bit of shimmer.

The Kel is a bit on the dark side (though if you have a big hairy cymbal basher, that might be a good thing).

I just got a Kel HM-1, used it as a mono OH, sounded great. I'm going to buy a second to use for overheads. Also at $100 a pop you should check out the Audio Technica Pro37. I've been using them as OH lately and they sound nice and sparkly on top.

Definetly not the 2020. AT makes some killer mics but that is not one of them...pro 37's are a better choice for the money...I used them for overheads on a couple sessions about a year ago in ortf and they sounded decent. A little bright. I would check out the AT 3031's. Those have less of a top end boost and have pad/lo cut...not too much more money than what you said.

Those Kel mics look pretty cool too.
