Shure 51 - anyone use one?

Just picked up an ancient Shure 51 on ebay (the cable cost almost as much!) - does anyone here use one on anything in particular?

Thanks!

Stuart

Haven't messed with one in ages.

Often used as a prop in movies.

It's a multi impedance omni dynamic. Highs roll off quickly after 7K, so expect little in that area. Big peak at 3k emphasizes midrange.

Might be ok on a guitar cab or something. Set impedance switch to L or M.

Looks neat.

You have to remember the 51 was your basic PA mic, more at home in a school auditorium or calling bingo games at the Moose Lodge! They were never intended as recording mics.

What they lack in fidelity they make up for in retro-cool. Enjoy it for what it is!

that's the plan - I think I'm about to go through a geeky-gotta have-vintage mic phase. Oh, I'll find uses for them (provided the damned things work!). Fidelity be damned !!!
