Micing a Roundneck Dobro

Well, we get that mic placement changes the tone from the cone towards the neck, but closer to the neck we loose that great resonator sound, granted the NT1A might not be the best choice.

Any recommendations for a good dobro mic and it's positioning?

hey! awesome

so what should I pair up w/the NT1A? A mic capable of a fig8 pattern? What is that lower mic in the video - a bottle mic?

Also phase flipping - I can do that after tracking in Logic 9 correct?

Yes. Dont try to imitate this guys setup 1:1. Any fig8-mic will do for a start.

Yes you can. I'm no expert in Logic but in most DAWs it is just one simple button.

Ive used these two techniques with success: (paraphrasing from engineer handbook)

Try a large diaphragm about 3-6 inches from screen area and a small diaphragm around the cover plate aiming at the screen area.

Or

Place a mic around 4-6 inches off the resonator and another mic 6 inches off the treble-side hole.

Sweet spot is usually between treble side screen and cover plate toward the bottom. Screen area is the low end and cover plate is more brighter.

I heard good things about the Samson C03 (non-USB version). It's not made anymore, but you can find it for < $100.
