Thread Starter | Focusrite Scarlett question I did not see asked
I record bass direct and never use more than 2 channels. I have used a Firebox again for a while, but my luck with firewire is fleeting. It just starts losing sync after a while, but I have owned this box for over 7 years, so it very well may be dying. I run Win 7 64 bit and think it is time to go USB 2.0. Anyway, I prefer to run a bass into a DI and then into the pre. Are you folks using instrument or line in for this application? (I should know this ).Also, how are the convertors on this thing? I would imagine it would be an upgrade from my presonus.

I don't have the Scarlet, but I do have a Saffire Pro 24 and I'm pretty sure the converters/pres are either identical if not very very close. I'd go line-in instead of instrument if you're already running the bass through another pre. The line in bypasses their pres and any color that they may put on the signal. The instrument in is still going to run through the pres. Hope that helps. |

I guess I will try both and just decide. Was just wondering if there was a more technical way to go. Sounds like Line In is probably it..thanks. | |

No prob ... yeah ... experiment and see what sounds best! I've been running my bass, a Fender Jazz, through a Tech21 Sans Amp, then straight in through converters and it's really working for me. Although other day I ran it through a GAP Pre 73 and I'm gonna have to go back and try it again because I think it sounded better than ever. Gotta do some A/B-ing and find out. Good luck.

Great interface and great converters for the money. You can run your instrument straight in it with the setting on instrument. If you'd rather use the DI, then you could go in the mic input or line. Whichever you prefer the sound of more. The pres are good too, but the converters are super-nice for this kind of dough. And it's USB 2. Cheers! |

I got this thing and it is fantastic. Very nice conversion and pres. Really easy to use and apparently is compatible with USB 3.0 as well. Definitely would recommend it.
