Thread Starter | Focusrite Saffire Pro 14 vs Pro 24
I'm a complete newbie in this BIG BIG audio gear world, and I'm getting my very first audio interface but I can't decide.. I would've just went along with the Pro 24 because it has more I/Os but I read somewhere that the converters in Pro 14 are better than the ones in Pro 24. Anyone willing to clarify on this? |

would like to hear ppls opinion on this too. they have dif. converter chips and dif. converter stats. not sure how much of a difference a few numbers higher in the ad da conversion equates to quality. miniscule dif?

I've owned a Pro 24 for 2 years and it is brilliant for my needs. IMHO if you're weighing up between just these two interfaces, I would go with the amount of i/o you require over the converters, because I don't think you would notice any difference. (I could be wrong on that point obviously, but I'm pretty sure I wouldn't notice!) Maybe someone else can weigh in with the science that I don't understand, but the Pro 24 is a decent interface!

I just bought a Pro 24 - haven't even unpacked it yet. However, I made my mind up that I was going with Focusrite and looking at the very entry level models, based on my needs. That said, I eventually moved up to the Pro 14 with the additional features and chipsets as the one I wanted UNTIL I seached the internet. I actually found the Pro 24 CHEAPER than the Pro 14. Crazy!! Why not go with bigger Pro 24 for less than the 14. Now there is a significant difference between the Pro 24 and the Pro 24 DSP/VRM, but at this stage there's no way I need the DSP/VRM capability for another $125.00. I'll just say I sent 230 for the Pro 24.

I only like a rig that has exactly what I want. I bought a Focusrite Pro 10 off ebay for $180. It's a rock. 8 solid pres, drivers loaded instantly, DL'd the software off FR's website; rocking in 30 min. No frills on this tank, just spdif in for my Grace lunatec giving me 2 extra money channels of outboard pres and conversion. Using it with an older model MacbookPro and Logic. |
