Thread Starter | Bang for bucks Hello everyone. I'm kinda new to this forum. Been lurking for years. I need a little advice on what I should spend some money on. Current gear: Toshiba Satellite i5 4gb ram WD external hdd connected via eSata M-audio 1814 behringer ada8000 Mics: Digital refference drum mic kit 2 x samson c01 mxl 990 991 sm58 radioshack 58 knockoff An assortment of other cheap dynamics apex 420 LDC Oktava mk-219 AKG c3000 My budget is about $700 to $1200 I was interested either a channel strip like the ssl alpha channel or a dual channel pre like the black lion audio auteur or should i upgrade my stock pre's and get rid of the ada8000. Or maybe I should hold off and get some nice mics first. akg c414 ? stereo pair. If anyone could give me a little direction on where my $ would be used the best, I would highly appreciate it. Thanks |

| What kind of music do you record? Also what DAW are you using. You have quite a few mics already. What do you feel like you are missing? |

Thread Starter | I'm using protools 7.4 Monitors are the m-audio studiophile 5" or my sennheiser hd280's I'm mostly recording bands from indie rock, death metal, pop punk, etc... Here is a sample of my last recording project Red Is The Color Of Reality by DaysAfterHail on SoundCloud - Create, record and share your sounds for free I don't have any room treatment at the moment (in the control room) but plenty in the studio. thanks again |

I'm not being funny I am honestly trying to help. If anything sounds out of place sorry ![]() You have it the wrong way around, the treatment should be in your control room first. Go have a word with the guys in the acoustics forum first, they are awesome and will help you immensely. The Likes of Glenn and ethan. Don't skimp on monitors, do yourself a favour and sit down and audition the likes of a7s / focal etc. Then, once you have this bit sorted out.. then consider putting a studio together. I made the same mistake and it will save you a lot of money in the long run. Must of done nearly everything wrong in the book, but I have learnt from it. | Lol, just some advice. If you get it right from the start, you can be an absolute gear slut later.. Your mix room is the difference between a good and a bad mix. Hope it helps, have fun. Sent from my HTC Desire using Gearslutz.com |
