A USB interface with a high quality headphone out...

... and a spdif out or aes/ebu for monitoring purposes only... is there anything of the cheap stuff coming in your mind? I don't need AD's, just a headphone DA, and may be 2 analog DA and a digital out to my moniroting system.

I picked up an M-Audio Mobile Pre to use with my laptop. I was suprised at how good the headphone output sounded. I don't think it has any other digital connectivity though.

Reviving this thread. When editing and mixing on the move it would be perfect with a decent, affordable and small USB interface with good headphone amp.

Anyone wants to share their experiences? I tried the new Presonus audiobox usb but the headphone amp sucked imo.

A H/phone out and 2 channels balanced line out via usb is all I need.

So far been looking at the ESI UGM-96, but it's still got features I don't need, but then do they really come any cheaper than this?

And man it's compact.



But 60 quid? 40 would be better.

edit: There's the ESU 22 as well, but quality? There's no reviews of these units.
Why isn't there just a usb to headphone out cable?
They have them for guitar signals and mics, why not one for headphones? Can't be too difficult to make one that's better than onboard audio can it?

There are. Search for usb headphone amplifier.
Tho they're sort of pricey, made for the head-fi guys.
