are the preamps in the 16R the same as in the other ZED boards? If so, I generally find them okay, but a bit stale and unable to excite me when I compare them to other preamps. They do not ever offend, but just sound a bit.... ummm... like the sound is deflated, like a helium balloon two days later--don't you just love my analogies! They are certainly not harsh and did not sound veiled or cloudy. I am referring specifically to the preamps on a ZED 428. Anyway, that is what I experienced from ZED preamps... but they may not be the same on the different boards.

watching a few promos, A&H state that the zedr16 have their best preamps

not certain if their the same as the board you cited

i snagged a golden age and really like it - but see the cost per channel for pres as much better the moment i find a great board with 16 of them for a couple of grand

still searching

I own the zed R16 and the pres are amazing and the pres in the r16 are different from those in the zed 428. the r16 pres have a great warm, and punchy analogue sound in my opinion. i Also own a fully modded GAP 73 and love it as well.

Personally I would love to hear some comparison clips between the GAP and the R16 pre's (got a R16 coming next week! ) BLA B12A would be cool too.

There was a comparison between the R16 and a API on the Sneap forum and the R16 came across VERY well imo.

Matt, hook us up with some metal R16/GAP reamps man!

I did not know that. I did wonder though, given how folks laud the R16. I wonder what A&H did differently on the preamp circuit?

I have the zedr16 and I love the pre's. I often find myself wanting some new pre's but I always come back to the idea that the pre's in the board sound great. I think the only thing it lacks is the ability to get dirty, which would be cool.
