| Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 vs Presonus 22VSL
I'm interested in a bus powered interface to use with my iMac and Macbook Air for light home recording and as a USB sound card for my Yamaha HS80Ms. After a lot of research, the Presonus 22VSL and the Focusrite Scarlett are my leading candidates.
I understand that Focusrite had some major driver issues when the Scarletts first came out, though the recent drivers seem to have fixed most or all of the issues. The preamps are supposed to be quite nice in them and it comes with the plugins, which is a nice bonus. The only real knock I have is the lack of MIDI on it - not a deal breaker, but it would be nice to have that option.
The Presonus is $50 more than the Scarlett and has the VST instead of the plugins. It also has MIDI built in which is nice.
So for those of you that have used one or both of these, how do they compare? How is the latency? Quality of the preamps? Stability? Is there a problem leaving them plugged in all the time (I use my iMac as a media server and never shut it off)? How is the headphone output in them?
Thanks!
