E-MU 0404/1212 PCI with Win 7 64bit

Hi!

I decided to get a more professional sound card instead of my integrated Realtek HD. I could buy both PCI models for half the price of their PCI-E versions (a HUGE deal in Hungary) but I've read a lot of complaints about compatibility issues under Win7, although they are quite old complaints (about 1,5-2 years old).

Does anyone have direct experiences with these cards under Win 7 64bit? Has E-MU done something about the drivers since then? Or they try to force people to get the new PCI-E cards by "forgetting about" the PCI models' drivers?

Thanks for all the help in advance!

I use the 1212 PCI with Windows XP and love it! Amazing quality. You might want to contact customer service and find out if it's compatible or not with windows 7. Mine specifically says in the manual that it's not, but then again, mine is a few years old.

I ditched my 1820 because I just couldn't get it to work properly in W7. I know others have done it. Several guys over on the Cakewalk forums rum E-MU stuff on seven in 64 bit.

My problem was that every time I started Sonar the I/Os were different, andf I'd have to hunt and peck looking for the one that would light up the meter. Absolutely random. E-MU support is pretty useless, in my experience.

1212m worked fine under win7 64bit for me.
I now have a RME HDSP9652 because I needed extra IO but kept the 1212m just in case.

What makes you think the 1212m pci-e will be any better behaved than the 1212m pci under win7?
As far as I know they are still using the same basic drivers.....

one of my computers has an EMU 1212. no issues with Win 7 64 bit and Cubase 6. the older drivers had crackling issue with sample rate change from higher to 44.1.

Oh yes, on second check, you maybe right.

So this "Windows 7 compatible with Driver download" message in EMU's driver availability chart means that the PCIE is only compatible with the old drivers of the PCI and there are no new ones for it?

Ran the 0404 pci and 1212m just fine under Windows XP, Vista, and Windows 7 32 bit and 64. I even got the 1212m to work under a hackintosh enviroment.

I really love my 1212m.

The only issue I have ever had is with presonus studio one. I get crackling occasionally upon loading studio one, but if I just reload the patchmix DSP session which takes about 1 second it goes away.

I could never get Sonar to see my EMU cards. I chalk that up to Sonar and not the EMU card. It works great in every other DAW except Sonar.

Been there, done that, bought the tee shirt--still didn't work. I have an Echo A4 now and it takes less than a minute to set up a session. With the E-MU it might take an hour to find the hot channels. I miss the extra I/Os but not the heartburn.

Yea it can be tricky at times!

Restart your computer, make you have the drivers selected in sonar, there's should be 2,guest what?1 on them do not work!

Try the emu asio,I gotta double check for you...

After that ,load up each patchmix template one my one and route sonar to different outs, until you get sound(its easier then it look).

It also depends on if your running analog or digital to the card.

I'm having no luck at all getting the 1212m pci working on windows7, any help would be amazing. The beta driver downloads don't work on their website? In fact non of the windows7 ones work, I get just blank pages.

If you have managed to get it installed can anyone tell me which drivers worked for you?

Thanks, really appreciate any help guys.

Yes, if someone has the beta driver I will appreciate it. I have one 1212m in the dust (used it for home hifi) and wanted to compare the converters to my n12 mixer.

I'm also having problems with this card on Win7 32bit.
If I play a single mp3 file in Ableton, 50ms buffer, ASIO, 48Khz, it skips audio like hell.
I also get very poor performance with VST instruments.
Should I install WinXP?

I have owned the 1820 and the have had the 1616m PCI e for quite a few years now and I have never had a problem running it on vista , win 7 32 and 64 and now run win 8 x64 with no new drivers.

Seriously it just works.

The DAW's that I have used in the past include Reason/Record, Cubase, Studio One pro and now mainly use it with Maschine, Adobe Audition cs6 and even Harrison Mixbuss.

Try another DAW than Sonar.

There is still support so look properly as google can be your friend.

Creative Worldwide Support > E-MU 16

Hope this helps as Creative /emu products have always been reliable for me.

Cheers

EMU 1212m PCI e and Windows 7 problems

Emu 1212m PCI Express & Windows 7 32bit problems...You get the card with drivers but they are out of date. If you go to EMU site you will find the EmuPMX_PCDrv_US_2_30_00 for Windows 7 32 bit but this one can crash some set ups...I mean really crash ...Blue Screens, frozen screens, noises the lot...So go for the Beta version EmuPMX_PCDrv_US_2_30_00_BETA ...It Works..Make sure you uninstall thoroughly any previous Emu drivers, re-start the comp. Check in device manager to make sure the sound drivers have gone then uninstall the Patch Mix App, it won’t ask you to re-start the machine but do it anyway...Re-start. then install the Beta Driver .Re-start...then install the Patch Mix.. EmuPMX_PCApp_US_2_20_00.. Restart..

You may find that window media player won’t work or any other app for that matter..Here’s how we solved it.

.Right click on the speaker Icon (bottom right hand corner) Go into “Playback Devices” You should see a Speaker Icon with the name of your soundcard and tick...This is good...Now click on that ONCE..this will highlight the word “Configure” at the bottom left hand side of the box..Click on that and you get an option to “Choose your configuration”..You get a list of Audio options “stereo” being the first and so on..Click on the button that says “Test”..You will get a message that says “This device is being used by another application”..Press “Cancel” This takes you back a step, then go into “Properties” and along the top of the box go into “Advanced”...You will see box which says “Exclusive Mode” with a check box that says “Allow applications to take exclusive control of this device”...If this box has a tick in it, take it out...Apply then Ok.. Then go to your D.A.W. Audio Settings and look for Playback and Recording...If you see a box with a tick in it that says “Share Drivers with other programs” or something similar, take it out.. Apply then OK then close D.A.W. Re-open D.A.W. then put the tick back in again ..Apply then OK...Close D.A.W. ... Go Back into Playback Devices as described above and make sure the Check Box that says “Allow Applications to take exclusive control of this device” is unchecked (has no tick in it) ...Now if you press the Test button in That Box YOU WILL HEAR SOUND.. (or you should)..End Result... All Apps Play Sound...I can play sound from my D.A.W. and Windows Media Player AT THE SAME TIME with my EMU 1212m PCI Express Card on Windows 7 32 bit.

I hope this helps for many..Just my way of saying thank you for all the wonderful advice I’ve received from this site over the years.

P.S. The procedure for.. (Allow applications to take exclusive control of this device).. will work for windows 8...(If you find EMU drivers that don’t crash, or freeze your computer and work with your D.A.W.)

A Great big Thanks to James.. The Windows Genius for all his help on this thing

Completing a new computer build I wasnt sure if my Emu1212M was going to work or not. It works on Win7 with no problems. For now I,m using it as a firewire interface for my Alesis IO26.

Is your 1212M the older PCI?
If so what drivers are you using? I believe there are only beta drivers for Win7.
I'm hoping to try 7 out, and also keep using the Emu.
