Bypassing ART tubeopto 8 preamps

Does anyone know if this can be done? A friend and I plugged an outboard preamp into the line-in and found that it was not bypassing the pres.

I still don't know if this can be done, any user experience??

ART have not responded to emails, and I can't find any details on this in the manual.

Yes, you should be able to. There's line in/inserts isn't there? That will bypass the preamp. But what would be the point of not using them? Are you just using it for the adat?

I was going to buy one of those mainly so I could connect it via adat to my motu, and bypass the preamps and use outboard preamps as I please. But I went with the echo audio fire 8. Just bought it actually, it's in the mail. They are hard to find because so many places don't carry them anymore, but it's basically a sweet a/d converter with line inputs for your external gear. . Under $600. FireWire/adat.

The art tubeopto was a close second. But you should be able to bypass the preamps via quarter inch on the combo jack. Someone correct me if I'm wrong!

Probably still passes thru the pre (as with most combo jacks)..Just a resistor chunked in there to raise the impedance level.

I just gave it another test by connecting mic to outboard pre, then 1/4" lead from outboard pre to combo jack on ART, which goes via ADAT to a Fireface. It seems the signal is running through both preamps as volume can be altered by both units.

Does this mean it is daisy-chaining, rather than bypassing?

I suppose if I wanted to use an outboard pre for its sound, I would turn the gain on the ART to minimum (which is still 20db) and the output on the ART as low as possible?
