Audix i5

Hey i5 owners,

how would you characterize the sound of the i5?

Like the sm57 but less boxy, more airy and soft (less aggressive).

nothing to do with the sound, but the I5 is strong, you could most likley play drums with them and they would be fine, so no worries of stray drum hits killing your mic.

Sounds great & is tough as hell. I like mine. Replaced my SM57 which the plastic head broke off and the mic broke after a couple more blows. It was really old though and served me well...over 10 years. The i5 looks tougher. It sounds pretty good too.

weird lower mid thing

what do you mean by weird lower mid thing?

is it peaky at that point? does it capture those frequencies well? what frequency range would you say that was? (ie what instruments would be affected by that effect?)

Thanks

it's exactly frequencies 254.5Hz, 368.5Hz, 1116Hz

just cut those out and all the weirdness goes away, works a charm

The I5 is great, well it works for me nice.
I just recorded guitars w/ the I5 today. The I5 & MD421 on a Madison 4x12 cab, I'm really diggin the sound that got tracked.
The I5 and E609 is what I have been using on snare and guitars over a 57 these days.

Anyone use it on rack toms??

I got one of these on the way. If it does anything special compared to ye olde SM57e, I'll let ye know what methinks.

the I5 is what the 57 wishes it was.

i dunno what the dude somewhere above me was saying about lower mids, but i suspect it is a problem with the room or the source, not the mic...ive used my I5 on almost every drumkit ive recorded since i got it right after it was released (probably close to 1.5 years)..and never run into that problem.

ditto.
i seriously need to dust off my 57, thanx for reminding me. guitars, snares, toms- the i5 wins over the 57 for me. i just think now with the option of the i5, the 57 is alittle dated. the i5 is the new and improved 57. having said that i do love the 57 and will never get rid of any of mine. but its nice to change it up after using the 57 forever.
