Powering tweeter and woofer independently

hi guys,

have a problem here. I have some Fostex NF-1 to try em out from a friend. the speakers are cool (sound is trustable) but they have to little topend.

now I go with an Alesis RA-100 and power the 2 subconnecters. they are connected to the 2 tweeter connectors (with goldplates and screws).

is it possible to power tweeter and bass independently without blowing the speaker up?

cheers

I don't know those particular monitors, but generally with a passive crossover, the HF input will take a full-range signal from the amplifier and make that signal useable with the tweeter.

Same with the LF input, but the other way 'round, of course.

You should be able to find a crossover point for them on their website. Then get your extra amp and a crossover.

Usually, the tweeter is more efficient than the woofer and to compensate, there's a resistor (fixed L-pad) in the crossover on the HF side. You can reduce the value of that resistor to increase the level of the tweeter. But if I'm reading your post right, those monitors are bi-ampable, meaning there's two pairs of terminals. You can remove the bridging straps and use a second amp, no problem. You don't even need an active crossover but you'll probably want an amp with a volume control.

Sounds like a good solution. Been thinking about powering my cheapo HiFi
speakers with separate amps. But then lots of questions came up (what´s
with the built-in passive crossover, what kinda active crossover would it take,
and so on...).
And the extra costs (a second amp, an active crossover) wouldn´t have
improved the sound much (i guess).

So i gave up the idea. TAVD´s idea sounds good, though.
