Need help with drum placement in room

ok heres the deal. Im in a basement. Room is approx. 24x15 feet. ceiling is about 8 ft, with cement floor with carpet. wood paneling on the walls, ceiling has exposed fiberglass *no sheetrock*

now on the one 24 ft side wall there is a fireplace, and that whole wall is lined with brick... I have put a mattress over the actual hole of the fireplace and I have 3 couches I have access to, to place in this room if needed...

on the opposite side i have bassboard heater along that wall...

Im pretty poor right now, so I have the huge amount of 100 bucks to work with... mind you I can be very resourceful... I have alot of blankets, quilts, pillows, 2ft x4ft sheets of wood at my disposal.

I need to mic up my drums, for the best sound possible on my budget... I need serious help, if anyone can help me, I would be in your debt... If you need visuals, I can send pics... of the room as well.

I suggest walking around the room and listening to the room. I usually walk around and clap my hands and ponder the sound. You may need do nothing else to record decent tracks in this room.

You will probably want to put that plywood out on the floor and then also listen to the sound of the room with the idea that you'll place the drums on the plywood. Good luck.

well, you can try, if you have extra mic stands, hanging blankets from them for a little baffling.

have you recorded drums there before?

if not, do some test recordings with the drums in different positions...one thing you dont want to do is point the kick drum flat at a wall...into an opposing corner from a distance, or at an angle into a wall is ok.

just move the drums around until you get a useable sound, then mark the positions with tape or something removeable, then move the drums until you are sure that you've found "the spot"

walk around with the floor tom, hitting it, until you find the spot where it resonates the most fully and satisyingly, then pop it on the floor and arrange the rest around that. takes 3 minutes max, works a treat.

I move about the room with my kick drum and throne. some people move the whole drum set, but I find that if I am happy with the kick drum in a spot, the rest of the kit will usually sound good as well.

If you have a dead ceiling, setting up on the plywood will work great. Bring in all 3 couches and put them in the corners if you can
