Thread Starter | Best female vocal mic for 'MY' setup.
Hello and thanks in advance for any advice. So, I'm mostly a bedroom recorder of synths and drum machines (non-professional) but I'm also a bass player in a band. Decided to record the bands demo at my place so looking for a mic for our female vocalist. Here's my concern. My current setup for recording my synths and drum machines is through an original Mackie CR-1604 then through a MOTU 2408 MKII into my Mac/Logic Pro. I need a mic to record the female singers vocals. I don't mind spending a few (thinking between $500.00 and $1000.00) bucks on a mic but I don't want or need to spend beyond the capability of the 1604/2408 combo. I do not have a decent mic pre so would prefer something that will work with the 1604's pre. Also, I'll be recording the vocals in an untreated back room (about 15' X 50') in my house. Computer/mixer are in a separate room so I'll be running cables to/from. There you have it! Oh, after doing a little bit of research and reading, some of the mic's I've read good things about are the Blue Bluebird or Baby Bottle, Neumann TLM-102 or 103, Audio Technica AT4047, Shure SM7B. Any other suggestions and/or advice is greatly appreciated! Thanks! Randy

| The singer/mic match is important, the pre-amp/mic match much less so (unless you are going after a certain, distorted sound). You probably do well to try a few with her. Keep the mic budget to about $500 and spend a couple hundred on rudimentary acoustic treatments. -tINY |

I'm kinda in the same boat; looking for a suitable mic and preamp. I've heard good things about the sm7b with a GAP pre 73. But I'm not sure if its what I should go with.
