KRK Rokit 8 or Focal CMS50?

For mixing dance and some dubstep, would you get the Focal CMS50 (5'') or the KRK Rokit 8 (8'').

I know that the Focal CMS are in another league, but I am curious to know if you would go with the cheaper monitor with the larger driver or the more high end expensive monitor with the smaller driver.

if you can afford either, get the focal. Ive got the 8s and rarely use them just to check if at all.

use that volume knob

I haven't heard the CMS 50's, but the 65's are great.

The CMS 50 are in another class. But they do lack allot of low end (They drop of below 50Hz) So the Rockits do go lower.

But the CMS 50's have a much better stereo image and ability to pick up detail then the Rockit 8's, would be much better to mix on if you don't mind the lack of low end.

For the price of the CMS 50 you can get monitors with much better low end while still offering very good quality (CMS are a little over priced) So if your doing Eletronic music Id consider something else if you have the money but it really depends what work you will be using them for.

thanks guys, I completely understand.
Believe me, I would go for the CMS65 or monitors with larger drivers, but I only have these two choices to work with at the moment (going to be mixing at my friend's studio).

so it's between the monitors that will give better stereo image and detail vs the cheap monitors that are better on the low end.

Thats funny because I never saw the rokit 8 as being good at low end...yes they have more bass than the CMS 50 but they sound messy a little bit. Not as precise as the VXT line.

Have a good mixing my friend!

Indeed, they are muddy down there. Your likely to get better results with the CMS50 even if the Rockits do go 5Hz or so lower.

I also am a Rokit RP8 owner and have never liked the results i get with them, in many rooms too. I get better results with my headphones and $10 computer speakers.

Focals any day. Rokit 6's are often said to give the most balanced sound of the series. I think the 8's go to around 45hz where as the 6's go to 48hz, without the problems of an 8" speaker.

Rokits are not terrible, it's just a lot of terrible people own them.

TBH mate I would get mackie HRE mk 2's, that's what most big acts making d'n'b/breakbeat use, youtube danny bird, chase and status, breakfastaz + in the studio, if you want to check.

35hz bass response, more than you need.
