VOCAL SET UP.. ADVICE

Right now I have 2 Rockit 8s, MBOX1, PRO TOOLS 7.0. SHURE KSM27

My goal: Basically I am working with a producer but when we record concepts in the studio I want to bring them home to practice, work on, etc etc. I I have been using this set up for a while and I just want quality.

I have barely any plug ins. What advice can I get from all of you out there. Money isnt a HUGE option, but I honestly dont need a full on studio, just something to make the quality pretty damn good for a small set up.

Thanks everyone!

keep in mind if you want to bring the sessions home, you need to do them at 48k max, 'cause that's all the mbox will do...

Otherwise, i'm no plugin expert personally. Although, the UniversalAudio uad-1 card setup that has plugs and onboard processing seems to be well-liked on here and i've just been looking at those.

Take a look at IK Multimedia's T-Racks Bundle. It's not too much money and it gives you a lot of options. I have a ton of plugins on my HD rig, but I always seem to go back to those for certain things. And I usually put the Mastering Suite on my rough mixes...it's a quick way to clean them up and make them sound more polished.

Use what you have. No need to get fancy for conceptual stuff. You'll re-record it all anyway.

But sometimes when it sounds nicer it inspires a little more.
If you feel the upgrade will help to inspire then I would suggest a Channel Strip or an External Mic-Pre , preferably one that has a SPDIF output (or the option to install one) so you can go into the Mbox digitally, thus bypassing the AD's and the Mic-Pre of the Mbox.

Here are few things you could look at ........

On the low end ..
ART DPS II
Focusrite TrakMaster Pro w/Digital Option
M-Audio Tampa

A Step Up ..
Aphex 207D

Another Step Up ..
Presonus Eureka w/Digital Option

For plugins I would suggest the
UAD-1 Project Pak
Waves Native bundle
both are under $ 400.00 each and offer a wide spectrum of plugins that sound good.

That's my 0.49ยข
Good Luck
