Thread Starter | V67 Shockmount
Hey gang-my first post... I have 2 MXL V67 mics which I'm very pleased with. The only complaint I have is with the 'squeeze grip' shockmount that is offered. Obviously, this mount was designed either by someone who wasn't really thinking, didn't care or maybe out of cheepnis. The mic is designed with a big nut on the bottom, but for use with the non-shock mount. WTF? I recently spotted 2 AKG SH100 mounds for really cheap ($20 ea. +S/H). I figured I could release the AKG center holder from the bands and place the 'squeeze' holder in. I did that, and it seemed OK. I took a second look at the given AKG mount. I assumed the threading on the bottom nut would not mesh. I tried screwing the mic in the AKG holder, and it worked. It doesn't flush mount-it doesn't screw in all the way to the bottom, but it sits in there snugly. So everyone who is having trouble with the MXL mount for the V67, I would purchase the AKG SH100. It's a much better design, and what the MXL people should've shot for in the first place.

Thread Starter | UPDATE-V67 Shockmount (for those who care)
It turns out that MXL offers their own shockmount that utilizes the screw hub on the bottom of the V-67. I haven't ordered one because the price is close to $50, $40 for the 'low profile'. I just received two more AKGs for a total of $48 and change. Actually, I'm not sure if this MXL mount was offered initially when I bought my first mic in 2006. I only saw the 'squeeze' type offered. Ah well. Looks like I'm sticking with the AKG. |
