Which LDC to get

I'm looking to get a large diaphragm condenser which I'll be using mainly for male vocals. I've been looking at the Rode NT2A which is around £230. My dilemma is, should I spend more money on a K2 or something better or get the NT2A? If anyone has any experience with these mics I'd appreciate some advice. Also, if anyone can recommend any other mics under £4/500 that'd be great

Cheers

Take a look at the SM27 (~$299). It's one of our best-kept secrets.

Just out of curiosity, why keep it a secret?

The K2 is awsome (the variable pattern lets you get just the right proximity effect and/or room to achieve the result you want). It's nice and warm and intimate. If that's the kind of music & sound you're looking for the you'd be quite happy.

For a lot less money you could look at Oktava 319 (IMO a really nice mic for the money). There's a lot of flavors out there and in the end it depends on what kind of vocalist and musical style you're shooting for.

That's my .02

My Kel brother!!!

Yeah, the HM7U is amazing. Around $400 though, so might be a bit out of your price range (worth saving up for though).

I've been happy with my MXL 2003a, it's a nice sounding mic. I like my V67G too, although I haven't used it much lately in favor of my Kel. I've heard a lot of great things about the CAD M179 (variable polar pattern, pretty flat response, nice sounding mic).

Check out Advanced Audio mics too...I've been quite intrigued by them. Advanced Audio Microphones

here's a list:

Stellar CM-6 (multi-pattern tube mic only available on eBay - do a GS search)

used AT4047

Kel HM7U

AA CM87 - his tube mics are awesome but over your price limit. FWIW, I have his CM12 and like the Stellar CM-6 better for my voice as well as ac gtr

Lots of OktavaMod options as well. I have his MJE K47H capsule mounted to a modded MXL 604 body, its my other go to vocal mic.
