Thread Starter | Oh techniques for "low end" rooms
Hey guys, From you experience, what's the most forgiving oh technique for rooms with low ceilings (about 9" to 10") and not so good acoustics? Ivan |

Ivan, > what's the most forgiving oh technique for rooms with low ceilings (about 9" to 10") and not so good acoustics? < You can't fix the acoustic problems caused by a low ceiling with "technique." However, you can fix it very easily by simply applying absorption. Rigid fiberglass or rock wool at least 2 inches thick is the preferred material. --Ethan

9" to 10"? That's really low! But seriously, you may want to dampen the area over the mix position to help with slapback reflections from the ceiling, as Ethan suggests. |

if you can't or haven't got to acoustic treatment yet, try close micing the kick and snare and placing a pair of pzms on the floor spaced about 8 feet apart, 5 feet behind/in front of the kit in lieu of traditional OH micing room mics close to the floor will work too

that particular drummer didn't have or want a hole in his kick so I built a little tunnel to get a little separation in the kick mic. I use to build a tunnel like that all the time with a FOK mic at the end of it. when I switched my beta 52 for a D6/speaker mic combo I didn't need to do it anymore I'm surprised you din't ask about the plywood sheets on the floor or the mic stand duct taped to the fireplace ![]() I need to update my pics, I've redone both rooms |
