Lets not get carried away and start stacking on options like one poster above said, monitor controls, headphone amps,.. etc.. .I think it should be kept simple, as a controller(with all the goods of course). Those things can easily be purchased separately and most people have them already.

Yes Sir! We may look into a Mackie extender-like device for people who want outputs (though that would be down the road).

that's fine with me, just make rewind, fast forward (mabybe some shift button that gives second function for example when you press it you get much faster fast forward, like on cubase when oyu hold ctrl and +\-),stop, play, record (everything one button not like on bcf that i need to press combination of buttons) maybe read and write, loop?? maybe like on presonus fader port

December or January and right now we are looking at Pro tools, Logic and Cubase initially, followed by reaper, sonar etc. soon after. Also we are experimenting with Ethernet connectivity (in addition to USB). More info soon.

I bought my DM-3200 on b stock from M123 for $1000 and it's a great control surface plus it does other things so I would say no.

Tascam used to make that big one - not sure why it was discontinued.

At $1000 you're getting into used console money so honestly I wouldn't buy a straight CS at that price.

This would be nice I'm searching for around 5 years now for a DAW controller that suites my needs:
16/24 Faders (24 preferred)
Rotary encoder for pan
The usual mute, solo, rec, select buttons
Scribble strip
Meterbridge
Controller section which has a couple of rotary encoders for plugin editing (and scribblestrip would be nice, a section like the Mackie M4u would be very nice but less encoders set me fine too)
Joystick (for surround panning)
Transport section with basic control and jog wheel

Digidesign had the Control 24/C24 and Pro control which do suite my need, however I dont like the pricetag, they have audio mojo and are protools only (as long as digi doesn't support, I'll stick with logic).

Mackie control comes close but doesnt have a meterbridge and joystick.
Mackie Hui would be much better, but its only 8 channels
Tascam US2400 was VERY nice, however no scribble strip nor meterbridge (and I find the scribble strip more important)
Euphonix is nice but I dont like the layout (its too crammed for my taste)

ahh well… I guess the perfect product doesn't exist…

I still can't believe that after all this time none of the majors have done this
It is a big hole in the DAW world we live in that need filling.
IIRC the HUI protocol doesn't support a master fader.

The market could definitely use a 24 channel control at a 1 k price point. Compatability is key, being able to integrate with something like the Waves SSL would be awesome. I think 1 encoder per channel is fine if they are selectable per channel, so effectively when you pick a channel you will have all 24 encoders controlling that channel, eq, comp, aux, etc. Basically a 24 channel mackie would be great.

I've mentioned this before, Marc seems to have it going on and apparently his product is in beta now.

Mackie d8b Hack, Part 2 - YouTube

check out the various videos and you can see his progress. Looks pretty good to me.

thanks im aware of the d8b software as its mentioned multiple times in this thread however my question was aimed at the topic of this thread .

a second hand d8b is around £1500 plus the d8bridge software at £350 , at £1850 used your getting closer to the territory of the nucleus ,the size of which is more suited to a small home studio. d8b is nice but bulky for just a controller i feel, at least for my needs anyhow

I'm so interested in this! I have had my eye on a us2400 but the lack of Windows 7 driver support freaks me out and they are becoming way over priced. I would love something new like what the OP has in mind seems perfect.

I have been following this thread and would like to know if there is any hope still?

Are there really enough functional d8bs still in operation to warrant this? The last one I worked on had to be rebuilt almost monthly. The umbilical chords were very fragile, brittle, over time. If you have a working desk and cannot get rid of it, that is another thing.

Is anyone using their US 2400 on a PC with Windows 7? I'm thinking of upgrading to a new computer and Windows 7 (Still using XP now). I'm pretty sure the US 2400 will still work with Windows 7 but, not positive. Anyone know? DO NOT want to lose my US 2400.

Thanks! I thought it should but, never hurts to check. Don't like surprises. Ha ha!
Now.... some of my older plug-ins may be an issue. Ha! Fact is, most of my plug-ins are older.
Thanks, again.

If it does everything the mackie can do, is built robustly, has 24-32 faders, and costs under $1500, you'd sell a ton of em.

If you skip scribble strips, it will fail.

If the faders are noisy or unreliable, it will fail.

If it isn't very ergonomic, and takes up a lot if desk space, it will fail.

Basically- make an SSL nucleus without the analog section, converters, etc, and you'll have a winner.

I would rather say make something very similar to the old digidesign pro controls, perhaps the C24 or something with a similar layout like the Sony DMX100 console (and added scribble strips).
No audio, stuff, just good faders, scribble strips, bar graphs, knobs and buttons and nice jog wheel.

Heck if mackie still made the original HUI and actually made expanders, that would be nice.
