Reverb VST Plug-In: Suggestions?

Ok, I'm looking for a good VST reverb plug-in to use. I see that Waves has the Reverb in the Renn Maxx package, but I'd rather not put out $400 - $500 for a package when all I need is the reverb. It will be used for vocals, drums, and some cleans/leads on guitars mostly during mixing. Anyone have any recommendations? Thanks!

This is the best you will get unless you want to pay for a more fully featured impulse response reverb. The waves reverbs aside from the IR-1 are not very good.

for convolution, ir-1 kicks butt... otherwise, have a look at princeton digital's stereo room / plate and spinaudio's roomverb m2.

it's mac only and more than you are probably looking to spend, but i love altiverb. i don't use any other reverb when mixing. i really dig and have never once regreted shelling out the cash for it.

Peace,

I agree on the quality of Altiverb (and their impulses).

There's a really quirky VST plugin called RM844 (or maybe it's RM884, I forget) that I've gotten a lot of use out of. It's not exactly a "pretty" sounding 'verb, but I've occasionally been able to design a few plausibly realistic spaces, and it rocks for doing bent ambiances.

Oh, did I mention it was free?

I was hesitant about spending the cash on Altiverb, but once I played with the demo there was no turning back. (of course it was a bit cheaper back at version 4...) Best money I've spent on a plug-in for sure.

RE: VST reverbs

Hi there.

There are many VST verbs worth checking out. Obviously Altiverb is a great product to have. If you are looking for something on the cheaper side try the following:

Silverspike Reverb.it (Same company that makes the free RM844) Reverb.it is $39.00 I use it a lot!

Anwida Soft's DX Reverb Lite. It is free and sounds great!

DASAMPLE Glaceverb is very cool! (and also free)

Magnus/Smartelectronix Ambience is very high quality. The demo is fully functional and never expires. The plug-in quality is top-notch and well worth donating some money to.

NBM Studioverb is also an excellent free plug-in.

I highly suggest downloading all the plug-ins listed above and giving them a try. With the exception to Reverb.it they're all free, so you have nothing to lose!

Thanks for the head's up on SIR. Just checked it out, and seems to work like a charm! Does anyone know any of sites with some models they would recommend for vocals that they have used and thought sounded good?

Thanks for the hint for ArtsAcoustic , I use many reverbs inc.
Voxengo Pristine space as I have a collection of good natural spaces
but it depends of the project. I recommend RaySpace for some purposes
also.

bring a Speaker and a microphone to a BIG cathedral or room....

hee hee. I'm using RVerb by waves, it works. Trueverb from I think Wavearts is nice too.

+1 to the convolution reverbs though.

How are the presets in the Waves RVerb...are they usable? Also, what does everyone think of the Renn De-Esser?

Give IK CSR reverb a chance. It's just now out. The audio demos on the site sound pretty good. Unfortunately the demo requires a dongle to be tried (synchrosoft I think).

Cheers!

Is there a delay compensation in SIR yet? When I last tried it, the reverb came late compared to the dry signal, which made it quite unusable. Waves IR-1 has delay compensation, but it's too expensive.

Don't let the latency of SIR put you off. All good convolution processors require a lot of number crunching, and latency is necessary. If anyone is doing convolution in realtime, they must be taking some big shortcuts.

I use Cubase SX3, which has full Plugin Delay Compensation. Obviously you get a delay if you are playing a virtual synth in realtime - but that's not how you should use SIR.

Use SIR at mix time - after you've tracked everything - and latency isn't an issue. (Or if your host doesn't have full PDC, you might need to delay the other tracks. But basically you are screwed anyway, because all your other plugins will be wreaking havoc with your timing).

Wrong. Modern computers can handle the math no problem. ie: Altiverb has no latency in it's normal operation, no "short cuts" needed. (but if you're running an older computer, or need to free-up resources you can enable a "low latency" mode to ease the CPU burden.)

Yet another for ArtsAcoustic Reverb.

I also rather like Silverspike Reverb.it and Wave Arts MasterVerb.

I'd check out the demos of Spin Audio's RoomVerb M2 and the one from Arts Acoustic. I checked them all out, and I think those two are the best of the ones under $250.

The Arts Acoustic is my favorite, too.

Wizooverb W2 and Rayspace come in tied for distant second place.
