Thread Starter | Audio cable (cat 5 or 3)
hey guys, i want to rewire my studio. I have a small apartment studio, I'd like to know if I can use cat 5 or cat 3 wire for my connections. or if there are anyother types to consider. i can't seem to find the thread that i read on this a while back. thanks

that's exactly why I'm asking because the is a ton of cable here at my work, the guy used cat 3 he says for the audio (radio station) just not sure if it's good enuff for pro audio.

| For short runs and in reasonably quiet environments, Cat 5 works pretty well. I wouldn't use it for 150' runs where stage lighting is used..... It is a pain to wire those solid copper wires with heat-shrinking insulation, though. I bet there'd be a market for XLR to RJ-45 adapters. Then you could use the standard IDC crimp connectors.... Make sure you provide a way to carry the ground and you probably want to stick with the regular shielded stuff from mic to pre-amp. -tINY |
