DSP24 Value (PCI) card and latency

Greetings,

I have a DSP24 Value, PCI card which I've had for many years now. I never thought latency was an issue to me until I started to read about it. Now I'm obsessed with the thought that eventual off beats in my recordings are due to latency issues rather than my playing abilities :P

I run a buffer of 256 (44.100Hz) and in Cubase it says latency in 5.8 ms and latency out 11.5 ms.

Specs
Windows XP
4 GB RAM (only 3GB used)
Processor Q9400 @ 2.66 Ghz

Would this be noticeble? Would it cause a problem?

I'm thinking of getting the Konnekt 6 firewire card, but I'm not sure that it would lower my latency significantly to more ok levels.

Any help is appreciated.

With latency that low I don't think that it would be causing you any timing issues.

If anything try monitoring direct from the source as much as possible rather than routing through your DAW, at least to confirm whether or not it is in fact a latency issue.

Thanks!

How would I go about to "rout from the source". Do you mean while recording?

Yes. Recording is the only time when latency may cause timing problems.

If you can get a direct line to monitor before precessing in your DAW then that would be best. Maybe even just mute the channel in the DAW and listen to yourself acoustically to make sure your timing is ok.
