How to route compressor to profire 2626?!

So,

I've been recording for a while, but have yet to work with external gear, thus my knowledge of actually connecting and using it is rather small.

So, my question is (which I've searched all over the internet for, called GC, etc.): how do I run recorded tracks into my external compressor and record them back. I believe I need to set something up with the Profire's mixer software program or something. I've tried a lot of configurations, nothing seems to work. I was thinking perhaps I need a preamp between the profire and the compressor?!

My DAW is Logic. If anyone could help out, I would be incredibly grateful. I can't believe it's so hard to find such a "simple" technique.

Thanks,

Profire output to comp input, then comp output back to profire input.
Then, you have to root your track to your compressor and back in via logic, Reaper has external inserts where you specify the outputs and inputs and it automatically compensades for the latency. Find how that's done in Logic.

The thing is, is that I don't see the VU meter moving at all on my compressor once I've plugged the 1/4 inch from the profire 2626. Like, I'll set the track's output (instead of "stereo output") to input 5-6. Then, I'll plug a 1/4 inch into 5, send that to the input of the compressor and nothing happens! Suggestions?

I've got the 2626 also and I'm just starting to fool with it and wanting to do the same thing your doing and I've only spent a little time learning their router software and it's got a bit of a learning curve to it combined with whatever software your using.

i want to send a signal thru an output to a comp back to an input, yet it seems like i have to mute everything else to do this (plus I'm just learning the hardware/software)

Let me know which way works best for you. I really don't like the idea of having to record the return/output signal but I guess with a DAW you gotta do it so you can bounce it it in the mix down.

This ITB stuff isn't as fun as I wish it was and I'm not too sure it's even worth using outboard on mixdowns unless you got some nice high end gear.

I might just have to realize that I got to work with this stuff all in the computer once it gets there and not think like I did when using a console and outboard gear.

You have to output it first through 5-6, if it's stereo or just output 5 if mono or any other out other than 1-2. Then run it through the comp and back into an input and track it into a new track. This is how I've seen it done. Hope this helps.

P.S. Not sure if it was a mistake but you said instead of out 1-2 you went through input 5-6. You have to go out before you go back in.

Hey guys so I have the same questions. For me I have it routed out of the profire 2626 and then back in. However, I had to do the same thing as the poster and mute all the other tracks other than the one I wanted compressed which doesn't let me hear the compression in context until after the fact.

BUT, that does not matter as I can not hear the compression until after it is recorded as the output playing back is loud. I am sure this is just something to do with the dsp mixer but does anyone have a fix for this?
