weighted midi keyboard

Hey all!

I'm a piano player at heart so I would really love an 88 key, weighted (the more like a grand piano the better) MIDI keyboard to use for production and performance.

said keyboard would also preferably have analogue out capability (am I wishing for too much?) and a jack for a sustain pedal.

anybody have one they'd recommend?

my budget is 500 max.

thanks!

Do you need something to feed MIDI messages to your rack equipment to make the sounds?

Or do you need a all in one MIDI controller that also has sounds built in?

Most older, console style, digital pianos would fit the bill. I have an older Wurlitzer with weighted keys, midi in out, analog in out, built in speaker and sustain pedal. It would be awkward for live gigs because of its size. The analog outs are a bit noisy but you could always get an external midi module with piano etc (vintage keys?)

I see these on Craigslist all the time.

I've been wanting to pick up a Casio Previa for awhile now - they used to go for about $400. Realistic action and decent built-in sounds too.

Just go on musiciansfriend and select your price range.
Casio CDP-100 I`d recommend this for the price...

A good idea is also to go visit a local music store and try the casio touch and sound first though.

Rhodes MK80 is one of the best when it comes to touch. Very nice rhodes sounds too (Herbie H. used it a lot in the early 90ies).

Otherwise I would suggest a digital kawai piano. I have an ES4 and it plays wonderful. However, no sliders or controllers (besides double sustain pedal).

went over to guitar center today to check out the m-audio 88 pro. sadly, the touch is way too lite for what i'm looking for.

i found some superb Yamaha digital keyboards that had really great touch.
are most digitals MIDI compatible these days?
