Please critique my guitar sound!

I've recently moved to a new apartment and finally set up my gear.
I'm trying to test out spaces in the apartment and so far this sounds like the fullest sound. However, I only have cans, not monitors, so please feel free to give feedback! Thanks!
This is compressed but that's it. There's no EQ.
There are three tracks: two acoustic rhythm guitars hard panned and the melody on acoustic in the center.

I'm using an AT4060 running through a profire 610. My DAW is cubase 5.

please please please let me know when this track is done!!!
I love it! I am only listening on headphones as it's very late
and don't wont to wake my family but I think it sounds very
good. I love the sound of mics in a room at the beginning!
Take care and I enjoyed your track!

Thanks for the feedback! It's a cover of a Yann Tiersen song. I was just sort of messing around with mic placement and room acoustics to see what worked best.
Unfortunately I don't know if I will be finishing this track... It was basically intended as a scratch... all in one take. But maybe I will have to finish it now

I think it's really well done. It sounds great.

Personally, I think that it sounds a little too 'in your face' for acoustic guitars - but not in a bad way at all so don't take it that way - I just think if it was a little more dynamic with regard to volume it would sound better but that is more of an artistic judgment type of thing.

Sounds great!

Nice has a good, balanced sound. Enough low end, pleasent mid range, and a nice high end. Kinda warm in tone IMHO. I wonder how this will fit in the mix??

Thanks all. I agree, it sounds like I'm mic-ing it too "close," thus the dynamic range suffers. I was looking for a warm, balanced sound so this was the best I could come up with. Does anyone have any pointers about making the guitar sit better in the mix without sacrificing its clarity? I kept the track dry so people can hear what it sounds like straight mic-ed, but obviously mixing it helps a lot. Keep in mind my gear/room limitations...

It sounds great as-is, it sounds full bodied to me, I usually point the mic towards the bridge for a thinner sound when strumming the acoustic.

There's a real art to mic placement with this kind of music and I like the full sound.

As good a player as you are you could put the mic on the ceiling and it would sound great.
More proof that the quality of the musician will always win. I could record you thru my imac mic and it would sound good. That guitar has a very nice sound to it.

Guitar Sound Critique

It is a well rounded and full bodied track...well played too. If I were going to mix it with other elements (bass, drums, vocals etc) then I would eq some "air" into it and add a slight notch where the vocals will lay, high pass to fit in the bass and use it as a key to sidechain the drum tracks. If the track is being mixed as an instrumental then I would add a little "air" and call it a day.

Well Done!

Wow
You all are so flattering. Seriously, thanks!
Now that I've gotten so much good feedback on this track in particular, maybe I should produce it into a full song.
I'll probably add a counter-melody on my clarinet, some piano for the low end and a glock to fill out the high end. Just out of curiosity (super n00b question), what exactly do you mean by "air?"
Thanks!

AIR!!!

Everyone has their own opinion of "AIR" but mine is reliant upon the very high end EQ of the track to give it that polished and professional sound. Typically a really good eq (API, Summit, Neve etc) or a plug in version of the same that just opens up the track and makes it breathe. Often times I duplicate the track to I can keep one as is and add one with "AIR" and then blend the two for a nice mix. The "AIR" is just a really crisp, high end eq that makes the sound of that guitar really punch out of a mix. Start playing around with high end EQ's or plug in's (I am a firm believer in the hardware) and you will eventually run into the "AIR" aspect of these frequencies when you hear it.

If not just send me the files and I can show you what I mean.

Thanx,
Jack

This is a very, very nice offer. I may PM you the stems in WAVs this weekend. Unfortunately my access to high end EQ hardware is a bit limited for the time being (not forever!).
