I need help nailing a certain vocal effect!

Fellow slutz, I need some help getting this vocal effect that Daniel Bergstrand uses on “Stabbing the Drama” by Soilwork.

I’ve got a client in the studio, who wants this exact effect on his voice. While I’ve gotten pretty close to it, I still haven’t nailed it and the client is insisting that I give him exactly this effect.

Here is what I’ve tried. Doubled tracked the chorus line with the singer right up against the mic. I then put the Waves doubler plugin right one the main line +7, -7 with all 3 of the voices equal volume. Delay is 17 ms on side 1 and 22 ms on side 2. Close, but not correct.

I’ve tried triple tracking the chorus and panning 1 vocal center, and the other 2 hard left and right. Didn’t sound right…

I haven’t figured out what I am missing to get that massive stereo spread radio thing going on. Does anyone have any ideas of know exactly how to get what I am looking for. I’m sure it is quite obvious and I am doing something stupid! I just don’t want to spend anymore of the client’s $.

Thanks guys! I GREATLY appreciate any help or ideas!!!

hmm, definitely sounds stereo. Try a slightly de-tuned mono 100% wet in one speaker and dry in the other, sounds like a bit of layering done as well. Let me know how it goes!!

This is what I would try. 4 tracks of lead vocal 2 panned 30L 2 panned 30R and sent to a vocal group. Compressed as one and sent to a stereo delay.

hmm, sounds like you need a tutor or take a course in music tech. Although alot of people are self taught in their techniques, there are still lots of basic things (terminology, signal paths etc) that is pretty crucial to know. I would suggest finding a personal mentor or investing in a course rather than picking it up from a book. Its a very practical subject (as you know) and its one thing looking at diagrams and photos, but another thing being able to ask questions and seeing the process happen.
