Thread Starter | Some cues needed!
Hi! I'm looking forward to some advice on using the ''New york'' compression technique, and also some cues and important infos about sidechains. I'm using the Glyn Johns mics system to get a live drum sound and puttin mics on the kick and snare also for some edgy ''modern'' accentuation and precision. The plan is to make a nice blend between the live drums and modern recording drums. Quite a project I know, Thanks! |

Have you researched these techniques? There are a number of threads around here that you may find helpful. Have you done a search?

Ny compression, also called parallel is when you combine an uncompressed signal or slightly compressed signal with a very heavily compressed version of the same signal. You would use a bus for this type of compression. You would have your track going to your master bus and then send that track post fader to a bus with a compressor on it. Make sure that bus is going to the master bus also. Set that compressor so it hits the signal hard (dont ask for settings as every situation needs different settings. Learn how to use a compressor and youll know how to set it for every situation) Now adjust the send level to combine the uncompressed signal with the compressed signal. |

Oh, i was using a different technique than that one; compressing the audio; bouncin' it then adding it to my current session as an audio file on a track. I sometime had to replace (movin it to the right spot) that track because of the delay all the processin was addin to it cause I sometimes had issues with comb filtering. Anyways, I'm-a go search further on the forums. P.S As for the compression settings, i'd say all I have to do right now is finetune my attack/release.. thanks! |
