| Gear addict | Does Anyone Not Like The (Unmodded) GAP Pre 73?
Don't want to start a war or anything here but all I hear is good things about the GAP. Before I pull the trigger and get one, is there anyone who doesn't like the stock GAP Pre 73? If so, what don't you like about it? Is all or most of the gain usable or does it get too wooly when really driven, in a not too pleasant way in your opinion? Keep in mind, I'm not going to dish out the money to have it modded. Any opinions would be welcome.

Love mine and it's unmodded, very quiet and clean can do dirty too, but its more noticble during track stacking...i dont like it's size, the wall wart and the paint on mine is not that great, it easily scrapes off...also when it's turned off there is a little hum introduced into my Saffire Pro 40 and i have to turn that channel down or leave it on, it doesnt record the noise, just when listening to mixes and mastering if turned off...

I got the tantalum mod not only to have better transient response, but also that way I knew my unit would be inspected by Warren's tech at Zen Pro. Heard too many stories about bad units and didn't wanna be a statistic. The extra $100 was well worth it.

+1 i went for the full mod, i figured it was the way to go but mostly so i knew as well that it was full inspected by Warren at Zen Pro, If you don't want to spent the $600 then ony get the TT mod for an extra hundred to make sure its working great. | |

I really like the sound of mine unmodded, but it's recently developed a power supply hum (or a pin 1 issue?). It's still under warranty, but still, pain in the ass.

I like mine. It is quiet, unmodded, and works great for vocals (even with my voice).

YouTube - Luper Will I be able to achieve my desired vocal sound with or without the GAP? Can anyone tell me how the vocals were mixed on this track as well? |

Gotta say, unmodded it's brilliant. With the saving you make you can buy the comp54 too, rack them together and have a pretty amazing little strip.
