Thread Starter | I'm scared of purchasing an RNC because of the whole "unbalanced" thing...
I've heard good things about the RNC and would probably have one right now if it wasn't for the fact that its unbalanced. Are there any comparable compressors under $350 that are balanced. I've also heard about the dbx is this unit any good. Thanx in advance |

There is nothing wrong with them as long as your room does not have alot of noise. They are fine (and actually have less electronics in the signal path than balanced equipment.) Get a few pair (and throw in a few RNLAs while you are at it), you will love em. Good Luck, David

Don't worry about it. If I'm not mistaken, the RNC is still +4, it's just unbalanced. If you're audio cables are over 50ft, then you need to go balanced. Quote:

Here is some info on connecting balanced/unbalaced cicuits from the FMR site. There is more on the RNC FAQ page as well... http://www.fmraudio.com/balancedinterfacepage.htm This really helped explain a lot to me before I bought my RNC. (I had the same concerns) I have been using it for a while now with my Hamptone pre(transformer balanced) at home and haven't had any problems. I am really happy with the RNC. I may very well end up buying an RNLA in the near future. The RNLA actually is balanced, so you might want to consider it as another option. Good Luck! |

See the following: http://www.rane.com/note151.html http://www.rane.com/note110.html Good stuff there. The dbx166xl (and a few other models) are reguarded as one-trick ponies. They do one type of compression well, with artifacts. Mostly for percussion and bass guitar. Get the RNC. You will be fine. Good luck, David
