low end combo amp for recording

whassshappening...

I pretty much burned all bridges with my neighbors after recording a project that required me to do a lot of reamping with my fender bassman 10.

I know better tone lies in small combo amps anyway, can anyone point me toward a relatively low cost combo amp, preferrably tube (perhaps) that has been tried and true in recording sessions????

I really like my Peavy Classic 30. Not expensive, versatile, all tube.

I've got a blues jr and a vox ad30 valvetronix among some other more expensive amps. I find both of these to be really worthwhile and both get chosen often over some of the more boutique stuff.

I second that Peavey Classic 30! Awesome sounding tubeness for a decent price.

For what type of music? My answer will vary greatly depending on what type of music you intend to use it for.

you might want to consider a used fender deluxe reverb (reissue or vintage). used reissues are going for pretty cheap these days. i think it's about a 22W amp.

If the purpose is to keep your neighbors from being pissed off, you really need to consider a hot plate or similar attenuator. The difference in volume between a cranked 20W Deluxe and 40W Bassman is only 3-5db, depending on the speakers that the Bassman is running through.

Tech 21 Trademark 10. Just a wonderful jamming / recording amp. FX loop, XLR out, ext speaker out, etc. Not the greatest 'clean' sound, but boy, for everything else.... thumbsup

I'll second the Tech 21 Trademark 10. I had a dog barking all day, on a day I was trying to track, gritted my teeth and decided to use the Tech 21 XLR outs to the board, and retrack later. Ended up keeping the track, great mojo! You can hear the trrack inquestion here. It's the rythym guitar doing the intro.

Consider the Epiphone Valve Junior. It's $119 brand new, all tube, class A, 5 watts, one volume knob into an 8" speaker. It sounds good out of the box but can be improved even further with a couple simple things.

There are a couple websites posted with detailed modding instructions. Just google them, they will pop up. I had my amp guy do a couple of the straight forward/simple mods, and I've changed to better NOS tubes.

Great amp for cheap.
