Shure SM7 for acoustic guitar?

I'm considering buying an SM7 since it seems to get good reviews around here for vocals. I'm wondering how well it works on acoustic guitar though. Anyone have experience acoustic guitar with an SM7?

thanks
Eric

depends on the guitar. with the right placement it can really flatter an inexpensive accoustic. not to bright, just right.

thanks for the reply. Do you think it would sound as good as a midpriced condenser such as an AT4050 or shure KSM44 if you're familiar with those?

Now that's what I like, getting to the point without alot of frilly, fancy metaphors and snazzy writing.

A SM7 certainly wont work for every acoustic, but I could see where it might be just the thing for some tracks.... I'd try it without the foam first.

Oh, and you'll need a very good preamp for it to really shine.

As good? To whom? In what context? Its all song, track and preference dependant. Just buy one used, try it out, and if you dont like it sell it for what you bought it for- they'll never really go down in value....

Daniel Lanois has been known to use a SM57 on acoustic- which many , many engineers would frown upon, but his records sound pretty damn good to me. So just try it out!

Thanks for the response. I guess I'll just pick one up then and see if it works for me.
