GA-projects TC-1 (=ADK TC-1).....a no-brainer

Just tried the the new GA-projects TC-1, which is an unbelieveably cheap tubemic(200$). A/B tested it with a SE Icis. (GA is ADK in new and even cheaper disguise by the way.)
The Icis is great for silver flute, but a general disapointment to me. Very well crafted, solid and beautiful design though.

On voice the TC-1 was better (my own voice, might be different with another voice). Not as pure, clean and bright sounding as the Icis, but more varm and still very present. It´s all about taste and situation ofcourse, but seems to me that this would find good use now and then. In general it is a surprisingly good tube-mic for the price.

Just the rackmount is more or less identical to a neumann rackmount that in itself cost more than this whole buy (suitcase, rackmount, powersupply, TC-1). And with 9 characteristics, lowcut and -10db pad it is a no-brainer to me........

Where did you get that info? IT IS NOT TRUE!

Sorry, I must have been misinformed at my local musicstore.

But GA-Projects are a part of ADK right ?

If not, then I´m really sorry to bring bullsh*t to the board

The mic is still great though.

No, what happened is that GoldenAgeMusic comissioned the factory that was making the Generis line to make those mics under the "GA Project" name. They were always generic designs and never had any ADK input.

Generis never brought much money in for ADK... Then more dealers started to go factory-direct.
I'm not sure whether or not Generis mics still exist, I believe the line has been dropped and the remaining stocks are simply being sold until depleted, but it's possible that some dealers still request them which means that there could be some NEW Generis mics being made today. Call/Email Larry Villella to find out more if you're really interested...

But in any case, Generis was never linked to ADK as far as the design phase is concerned.

UPDATE:
The Generis line is still being made, and is now called Project-G.

Thanks for the info on this brand. I thought Golden Age was just a swedish brand that bought the same generic ribbon and tube mics as Nady, t.bone etc.

My other post, and was warned but I Bo is a nice guy and I´m somehow trusting
for my 53 years of age.

"I just ordered GA Project TC 1, its seemingly from the Alctron factory and the same as ADK generis. But cheaper and the company selling it is respected around here. Time will tell what I think of it eventually. http://www.goldenagemusic.se/
P.S. check the active ribbons and tube sdc´s.
Regards Matti"

Bo's a good buddy and I wish him luck with GAP!

But I just want you guys to understand that GAP and ADK don't share anything except perhaps a few accessories that might come from the same supplier in CN.

All our new upcoming models and revisions (talking ADK here, not Project-G) are our own designs. We use less and less CN sourced components and we're about to dramatically improve the capsules we use in our products. There will be NO "generic" parts or designs in the ADK line within a year or so.

Thanks for your understanding and sorry if I confused anyone...

I think they have US prices mentioned in their price list.
Contact them, they are easy to deal with.

I'm sure they ship overseas. Drop 'em an email, shouldn't be a problem I think.

Been using the range of Golden Age mics on tracks I'm working on for a band at the moment.... the R2 (Lollipop styled mic) is being used for acoustic guitar... very warm, solid & sounded a little (to our ears) bigger than a Royer 121 we'd put up first - before having to move it to Drumoverhead duties...
The Tube R4 is simply phenomenal... the difference between that and a verrrrrry expensive Neumann M49 wasn't that great at all. a touch darker & low middy.. would be good on female vox or a "thinner" soudning male vocalist... on a guitar amp a forearm's length away from the cone... jus gotta say "WOW"... thick, dense sound that needed no eq to sit well in the track... and value for ££££ is top notch.. Build quality looks awesome... they all come in good quality boxes that should protect them for a long long time to come....If time allows we'll do a direct comparison with the Tube R4, THe Active R1 and the normal R1 tomorrow... & if the band agrees, i'll post some clips up here... GO and buy some now..!! at the prices i've seen you jus can't go wrong!!!!

Enjoy!!
