New Monitors for sub $250

I'm looking to buy a set of monitors for the home studio I'm trying to put together, but most of the articles and posts I've found are a bit too old or in a different price range from what I'm currently looking at. I'm looking to get a pair of monitors for around 200 to 250, used is, of course, preferable, if i can get more for my money. All my recording will be done at my school, but I'm hoping to have the ability to mix at home. I have little in the way of sound absorption, and would also like some recommendations on what to buy in that field as well.
Thank you in advance.

The Samson Resolve A5's are pretty decent for the price.

The Behringer 2031p would be ideal in that price range.

Any suggestions on used speakers? I'm not seeing a whole lot in that area of ebay.

Future Music Magazine rates these very highly...

Other option is the controversial headphone solution... You could get a very decent pair of headphones for $250 and not have to worry about accoustic treatment.

I've got a pair of sony v700's which I've really fallen for, so I'm not looking at that as a solution right now.
How do you guys rate krk's products?
I have alot to work with at my school, we have some JBL LSR4300's at my school studio, but I want something for home use.
Also, I'd prefer active monitors, I don't want the amp taking up additional room.

i second the quote above. i have a pair of these, used them for the almost past year, and they are great for the price and value. i even did a video review of these speakers:

i am very satisifed with them. are there better monitors, of course! but for the 300 and below range, you can't beat them.

I just bought a pair of ADAM A7X Monitors and I can't believe how amazing they are, especially for the price. I'm only mentioning this as I have been using a pair of Behringer B2031A Truth monitors for about 7 years (due to lack of money). For the price they are great (I haven't tried the B3031A with a Ribbon tweeter but for the money I imagine them to be good - for the price point). I recommend the A7Xs as it will CHANGE YOUR WORLD!

I understand how money can be so tight but for the price point you'll looking at the Behringher Truth series offer a lot of value for the money!

Had a lot of luck with used. Craigslist is better, 'cause monitors are heavy to ship and it's good to hear 'em. That said, I'm not sure why you're not seeing them on ebay. Usually there's quite a full range available.

Heck, I'll sell you my old Rokit 5s for $150 if you want 'em. The RCA input crapped out, but with the 1/4" jack they're perfectly fine and sound great. It's the pair I learned all the basics on. PM me if you're interested.

Check out the Event 20/20 BAS. They are very nice for the price. I have some of the powered ones, but the BAS are bi-amped and sound better. Great for the price. Also, don't fall for any dealer/manufacturer hype. Aside from some advances (like active ribbon tweeters) loudspeakers haven't changed in years, so getting "this years model" isn't truly important. Go used!
