Reaper
Tracked live into Reaper in my living room. Mixed on the Mackie with KRK V8 2's. Reverb and delay busses done in Reaper and sent to the console. This recording was from band practice, but I thought it turned out well. Originally posted in the Post your good recordings with "junk" gear, but only half of this gear has been called junk. So, I moved it here.
Dug this a lot. The singers voice is very feistish? Which is a good thing. How are those KRK V8 2s treating you? I've been thinking of grabbing up on a pair.
This was recorded using nothing but an ADA 8000 and an Emu 1820M sound card. Mics were nothing out of the ordinary.
I really dug this track. Definitely a cool vibe with some nice guitar. The only thing I'd change is the presence of the vocals. I thought they could've been more up front but other than that, quality track. I'd like to hear some more.
here's an entire album that i've just released, that was recorded on low end outboard gear... many of the mics/hardware/plugins were chosen by frequenting the Low End Theory forums daily for the past year. I really love GSlutz, in spite of the bad apples...
Sounds great to me, Jeff. Acoustic guitars are really nice. Bass is pretty loud in the mix, but imo you can never have too much bass (I started producing as a techno / house music guy)
your drum work sounds awesome. i guess that the gap you got really makes that lil behringer shine huh?
tha bass work was excelent as well. im in the middle of teaching myself bass guitar too.
I love playing the bass..I am not a bass player, I started playing drums at age 3 and through my life taught myself bass and guitar, just enough to make it through a song!
here's the first song with 'instruments' i ever recorded and mixed, just recently, it was a birthday present from my wife and i to a friend. (i've been recording some stuff with instrumentsbefore that but never finished a song, and have been trying to do electronic music for a while)
equipment:
guitar - mexican fender straight into motu ultralite
bass - squire p-bass into the motu
vocals - shure sm58
drums/synth - ableton suite
lots of NI guitar rig
recorded/mixed in ableton suite on shure srh 840 headphones
'mastered' with izotope ozone in Amadeus (meaning i put a preset on it)
Reason/Record, MXL1006, Art Tube MP, M-Audio 2496, An electric Guitar...
From 1.20 I think the voice sounds great. One of my best takes.
woah! flashback! love the pads and vocals, and all the synths really.
sounds top notch.
how is reason record? i stopped updating my reason at 3.0 but starting to thing about updating. . . ok maybe i'll search the forums for more info on that.
this is my first multitrack studio style recording. we did 7 songs in 10 hours over the weekend (not recommended!)
stock 003, behringer ada8000 (gasp!) + some crappy mics (best ones are sm57s) then trigger for drum replacement.
its not quite the finished mix (vocals down, solo up will be done) - any thoughts, id love to hear them.
Nice! Very aggressive, sounds real good. re. the vocals, they sound pretty dry, maybe a delay or something. Other than that this sounds really good. Love the chorus!

Record is nice.
The new audio stretch is cool and Neptune (Autotune) is a lot of fun.
Upgrading to Reason 5 and Record will dramatically change your workflow.
It took some days to get used to the new sequenser if you are comming from Reason version 3.

Outstanding job!!! I really like the sound you got going, the stereo field is pretty cool....Must be the 'widening" effect on ozone (i like that effect also)
Off topic question, what do you think of that P-bass? I really want a new bass and was looking at the one you have because I can not afford a real fender P bass.

Thanks! Yes for the master it's "4 band excitation & widening" on Ozone, I think I didn't even touch the preset. Also a flange/phase thing happening because my wife didn't like the track delay in the cans (which I should probably have fixed), so sang the tune with the monitors on in the same room.
The Pbass, I may not be the best to ask since I really have never played bass before. (a lot of the track I've played a lick once or twice and looped it in Ableton) ....but it seems perfectly suitable.
The action is pretty good, the sound is pretty decent. Gets a bit buzzy higher up the neck but that could probably be fixed too.

Thanks lank81. Your right the vocals are set back somewhat, I was a bit reluctant to push them to high as the singer is a little weak. The mastering also burried the vocals a little bit for some reason.
As far as more there is an entire album I'm in the process of mixing it and need to get the singer back in the studio to fix some sour stuff and a few guitar parts. I will post somemore once I get some work done.

My father just dropped off a "Hamer slammer series" bass today for me to have a lot more midrange to it, not sure if I like that or not!!! Still wanting a real P bass!!
I have posted 9 mixes I have produced this past year in my basement studio at:
www.ghostinmyhousestudio.com
Comments welcome.
I used a Firepod into Sonar 4 for all the tracks. Pretty much no outboard rack gear to speak of. Main mics used on all material were AT3035, AT2020, MXL 4000, Shure SM57 and SM7B, EV kick mic on the kick (not sure of the exact model)

Really like the sound of this, especially the vocals, which mic did you use on them. Really cool song as well!
