Protools LE latency with outboard gear

I'll start by saying that I have researched and found out to fix this I can run everything through a mixer and patchbay so that way everything has the same latency. My question is is will the gear I have work in the same way.

My gear I have a Digi002R, an old berhinger MX1604a mixer that has been out of commission for some time, but if it will fix my latency issue I'll use it until able to get a quality mixer. I also have a tube compressor and a sonic maximizer.

If I were to get a patchbay and connect the 002R's Ins/Outs to the patchbay along with the Ins on the behringer and the outputs being alt3-4 and main R&L and aux 1 &2 outs on the mixer to the patchbay along with the I/Os of the outboard gear and patch everything where I'd like it to go would this fix the latency?

Also if possible would getting just a patchbay and run the 002r and outboard gear to the patchbay fix the latency issue?

if you patch the analog outputs of the 002 into the mixer and the stereo output of the mixer back into protools, there will be no latency. Record your mix from the console onto that track. Use input only monitoring in protools to see 2mix level and keep that track muted to prevent feedback. Use the monitoring facilities on the console for simplicity.

ah ok so lets say I want to add compression to just the drums or vocals for that matter I could patch out of the 002 to an input in the mixer and out of the mixer back into protools and would have no latency? or are you saying this will only work for the stereo bus of the mix with my setup?

if you are talking about insert delay compensation (like for an individual vocal track), then sadly protools LE is incapable of doing that. You have to get HD or another software like Logic or DP.

I was talking about sending out all your tracks or sub groups to your mixer and doing the analog processing and final summing there and recording the final mix back into protools.

Ah ok good deal. Thanks for answering all my questions a huge help.
as for insert delay I guess I have to get Mellowmuse Software : ATA to fix that issue. anyone have experience with it here?

Yep. I live by the ata. Takes a few times to your head wrapped around the '"layers" the ata uses but it works great for delay compensation.

on ata website it says it works with hardware. is it automatically or do you have to go in and manually input the latency amount of the hardware?

Beware! Tere is a learning curve on the ATA. You should really, really care about the delay to bother with setting it up for each session. I have it, but end up never using it as I find it a real hassle.

another question has popped up on me regarding the subject.

If I were to get a mixer with direct outs how do you connect all the gear to the patchbay and mixer in order for everything to have the same latency and not have to worry about insert delay and fumble around with time adjuster for the the hardware.
