Which mic for this type of voice (sample clip provided)

I'm recording this with an AT3035... early morning haven't set up the owen corning panel so there's alot of the room's crappy reverb in there...

but this is typically what I sound like... thanks you in advance. those phrases are from a pop song a long time ago, just for this lil test run.

It helps to understand what sound your trying to go for and to say what you don't like about the actual one done on an AT3035.

You Need to say those things, because it comes down to personal preference and the kind of sound your going for.

It seems to me that's there's not enough detail and fullness from the AT 3035 (which is an inexpensive mic)... and i was just wondering from those with experience out there, with that type of voice what do they normally use.

and also when I EQ, the boost at 12k make the voice grainy, I think it's the mic... usually i end up cutting at 12k to make it less grainy but i rather have it a lil more airy up there for my liking.

It's not uncommon to use different mics on the same singer, depending on what the rest of the mix sounds like for the song being recorded. You need to play the voice with the instrumentation that goes with it. It's how the voice sits in the mix that's important, not how it sounds solo'd - unless you're producing a track with vocal and no musical accompaniment. For that voice without a music track, I'd try a MXL V67g, or the MXL 2003a (which is supposed to be a better version of the V67) but in a mix you might need a brighter mic.

The 3035 is grainy, especially in the upper mids and especially when amp'd by a low $$ pre with slow opamps...it's just the nature of the mic. If you want a different experience you need a better mic, for example a 4033. What pre are you amping the 3035 with?

wise q. actually the entire chain is very important, especially the pre. OP mentioned the non threated room, but neverthless it's damn important. and maybe the most important: position of the mike vs singer and room.
Somewere here it's very nice thread about bIG surprises regarding the mike position.
supposing u already know that, sorry wasting your time. if don't, try to experience and study what u already have. it will help no matter the mike.

I have the art MPA gold with mullar tube... it's a tube pre so it probably add some graininess on it's own.
