Anyone have their GAP 73 modded after the fact?

Anyone here buy a stock GAP 73 and then later have it modded? Was the difference worth it? Just curious about the before and after difference between the stock GAP and after the mod.

I'm considering having both my GAP 73s modded by Dave Thomas of Advanced Audio Microphones (Canada). He does the input tranny and the tantalums for $200 per and claims the output transformer is negligible to upgrade - he claims the input tranny makes the most difference.

...I've not had mine upgraded, but I will tell you that my Neve tech recommended the same upgrades as being the most relevant...he told me the Neve 1073 "sound" is most determined by the tantalums and the mic input transformer specifically...so, according to this particular Neve expert (he builds his own line of Neve "influenced" preamps/summing mixers) that would be the upgrade most worth investing in...

Found this in the gear shootout forum... scroll down to the piano clips comparing the stock and modded GAPs, there's a very clear difference.
The differences are more subtle on the other sources. Overall more clarity and focus with the mod.

Angus did a fab job on comparing the modded to the unmodded. It seemed apparent that the mods definitely enhanced the quality of the sound....a worthy investment. thumbsupthumbsupthumbsup
