Modded MK012 vs Shure KSM 27

Side by side on acoustic guitar. Kind of a joke. The 012 made the shure sound like the cheap chinese condenser that it is.

First off, the KSM27 is made in the U.S.A. I do think the Oktava's are pretty decent mic's, even unmodded. I had a pair that I ended up selling.

The KSM27 certainly wouldn't be my first choice for acoustic guitar, either. I definitely prefer SDC's on acoustic guitar, but for the price of a modded MK-012 I'd take an SM-81 or KSM141 any day of the week.

I do think, however, the KSM-27 is my favorite low end mic for vocals. Very smooth up top, and it doesn't sound like the cheap chinese mic that it isn't

My humble apologies. I love the sound of the mk012 but I've never heard a ksm141 or sm81

Is the intention of this thread for you to make fun of ksm 27's? Good luck finding any major studio that doesn't have at least a pair of them.

I really liked mine but acoustic definitely isn't what comes to mind when I think about what I would mic w/it. It indeed is an excellent vocal mic, and sounds really good as overheads as well.

I have a KSM44, the big brother to the KSM 27. These are good microphones. I am glad for you that the Oktava 012 worked well for you. Don't throw away the KSM 27 just because the 012 out shined the 27 in one setting. Remember, we have lockers full of microphones for different situations. Also, you are comparing a LDC with a SDC. Better to have compared the KSM 27 with a modded Oktava 319. Even then I know they have different voices and different uses where both mics will shine.
