Anyone used the SP C4 SDC's and have an opinion on them? Anything you consider better in the same price range with similar features? Thanks! |

I prefer the Oktavas on acoustic compared to the C4's, and I prefer the C4's on drum overheads. War | |

I bought a pair a few months back and have grown to love them. Their very transparent. I feel like I get the same sound thru the mic that I get when I'm in the rrom with the instrument. I love them as drum OH's, Drum room, acoustic guitars, and I mic'ed up a leslie 122 and was very pleased with the results.

Just a regular guy´s opinion. I have a pair and I´ve used them for a bunch of things, from overhead mics, to acoustic stereo ensembles, vocals, choirs, recording fireworks and a bunch of less exciting things. The cardioid capsule is present and clean. The omni capsule on the other hand is fairly dark and captures a lot of bass. When recording in omni, I often have to roll off a lot of bass. They are somewhat thick in their sound compared to expensive mics, but the frequency response is not peaky. Also, they are really quiet and have bass rolloff/pad, which is useful at times. They aren´t too pop sensitive, which is nice when using them as vocal mics. Recently I compared them side by side with a stereo pair of DPA 4003 mics recording my nylon stringed guitar, and the results were really eye-opening. The 4003 had a much better stereo separation/width/depth and even frequency response - especially off axis. There was no comparison. Not really a fair comparison, the 4003s go for $1800 each... Tough I must say they are really good for the price, and they are very tough. I used them on a live musical gig this summer, and one of the actors tipped a 4 meter mic stand with a C4 straight into the gravel. The mic just kept on working. I plan on using four C4´s on a vocal group at a live gig next week, with "better" mics on the instruments. Mats |
