RE20 not just for vocals?

I am looking into getting an RE20 for vocals and voice overs. I was just wondering other studio uses for it. I know people have used them on kicks, but what else have you micd up with it? What do you find is your favourite technique and what sound response do you look for with it on other instruments?

I still want to try one on each side of a snare - you'd think it'd be beefier than a cow

It's great for mic-ing a bass cabinet. Despite it's beefy look, the sound is not woofy, it actually is a pretty balanced sound.

Recent rave review for this mic as a kick mic RE20 by Electrovoice - is there a better bass drum mic than this currently made?
(read it in the high end before I saw this topic)

A great all around mic.
Bass: electric or acoustic (for a certain sound)
Kick
Vocal (singing and VO)
Electric guitars
Acoustic guitars (for a certain sound)
Tuba (yep tuba!)
Toms
And you could ward off an intruder and plug it in and it'd still work just fine!
I'm sure there's plenty of other uses I'm not thinking of off the top of me head.
It's a great "in a pinch" mic for just bout anything.

Ironically the low-end cult piece (aka SM7) is a bit better than the RE20 on bass cab. It (and cookie monster screamos) is the only place I have the SM7 as go to. The RE20 is nice though, I'd say third for that behind SM7 and MD441. The RE20 makes a fine Sax mic through a nice tube pre.

Anywhere you don't want proximity effect concerns but do want good off-axis rejection.

This guy seems to love his RE20 on vocals. And as a hand drum. thumbsup

I've been very pleased with the RE20 on jazz electric guitar.

Yup, I've never actually used one in the studio, but live I've used it on kick, bottom snare, and bass cabs. Great mic!

I use it on the kick drum and another one for my vocal mic. For some reason I've never liked it on bass or guitar amps. I used it on a field snare once did a good job there too. Can't really think of anything that its terrible at it's almost as universally useable as a SM57.
