I have NOT found the RNP to be a great bass DI. It's just too clean. No grit, no color, just flat boring bass sound. Perhaps it would be good to mix in with a mic'ed up bass amp, as it would provide quite a contrast, but I don't like the sound of a mic'ed bass amp (I don't like room sound on bass guitar as it tends to get lost that way in a busy mix). I actually prefer the old ART studio MP better for the color it adds, although it's not my top choice either.

I have used the RNP for DI'ing electric guitar to later reamp and run mic comparison tests, and it KILLED for that, as it's so clean.

That being said, I love the RNP for any mic in just about any situation. It's fast enough and has enough headroom for drum OHs, and warm enough for acoustic instruments. It just never sounds bad. It's not always my first choice, but it is always a good one.

I have had the RNP for a few years now. I bought it based on reviews from this (and other) sites. Although I'm not blown away by the DI, I still think it was a great buy and still remains a valued piece in my humble studio. It's clean but not surgical clean and has usable gain for days.
