| I dont think that LA4s are all that expensive - what is one going for these days? Pick one up baby! Work the streets if you have to. |

Also, because of the lack of controls, it's kinda hard to screw up. I just set the ratio to 2:1 and adjusted the amount of gain reduction with the threshold button. Really, even if I didn't want to compress something for tracking, I'd still run stuff though it just for the warmth it adds but setting the thres at min. Using the LA2A was even easier to use, since all it has is basically one knob (threshold) to dial in the amount of reduction, and then a make up gain knob. For me, I like easy. | |

| And if you want to really make that compressor nasty you spend another $450 for the Alactronics mod! |

Actually that's not true, here in the uk our houses are so expensive for the crap holes that they are....we pay 2/3 of our income just to keep a roof over our head. So the only option is to borrow yet more money on credit cards/loans to buy the stuff we need. The UK is buggered.

| ...OK...I'm not gonna compare this to the LA4, but if you want a bit more "warmth" than the RNC for cheap, grab a clean Ashly CL-50E on eBay or Craigslist...my Neve-tech gave me the headsup on these things and after I got one, I sold my RNC...much more of an old-school kinda vibe (built like a tank and more versatile than the RNC IMHO but still smooth enough that it's hard to screw up)...best $50 I've spent on gear lately...
