$1000-1500 setup studio budget

Hi guys,
Just got news on moving into a new house today which has an extra bedroom which is going to..........drum roll..........be my new home studio.

Now what I'm thinking is, I want it to be a mixing studio primarily but I also want to be able to record acoustic guitar, vocals and the odd amplifier. I just sold all my stuff before moving from Madrid after my audio studies.

I was running a small bedroom "studio" with M-audio Bx5a monitors, perception 200 condenser and a Lexicon Lambda interface. Pretty budget stuff but I was a student, sue me...

Now I want to start off with a budget of 1000-1500 bucks. I'm going to do the acoustic treatment myself, a little DIY is good for the soul you know...

But I will be needing monitors, an interface(I'm thinking just a few ins, but maybe 8 mic pres would be good if I wanted to go record a band somewhere...) a pretty good condenser for vocals and acoustic guitar and maybe an extra mic if the budget allows for it.

What do you guys think? I will be buying more as time goes on, but since I don't have anything except my instruments I'm needing to start off with something usable. I.e. I won't need that awesome ribbon mic or that insane subwoofer since that can come later. I'd rather have a nice pair of monitors and a good condenser.

I just want to know your thoughts since you guys seem to have knowledge of great obscure brands and inside tips and tricks.

Well, if I were you and had 1-1.5k to spend on a new set up I would purchase the following:

1 LDC = Oktava MK 219 modded by Mr Joly - 300 dollars (in the classifieds section right now)

M-audio Profire 2626 8 channel interface with pres - 600 dollars

Which leaves 600 dollars for monitors

But honestly...you will deff benefit from treating your room before upgrading your monitors.

I recently made nine 4' x 2' x 4" rockwool pannels for around 300 dollars.

Use the other 300 for the monitors, unless you want to sell a few of the things you won't use anymore like the bx5's and then look out for a nice pair of monitors. As I think of trying to suggest monitor pairs though, I'm really confused... Event ASP8's are pretty good, Yamaha HS80m's are too, and Mackie hr824s can handle their own pretty well. All can be had slightly used for around 400 dollars.

Best of luck.

I wasn't clear enough anymore on my former equipment. I've already sold all my old stuff because it's hard to travel the world with studio baggage in your suitcase...

I'm going to start using my Macbook laptop for myself, but I also have access to a Pc that I could use. I have eyes set on buying myself an iMac or something like that in the future, but in the meantime my Macbook 2.1Ghz, 4Gb Ram has to do.
