Question motwn baby!!!

I got a 4 track, 4 mics, and a rock trio in my garage. what kind of recording methods were used in the fifties? what are some things motown used? I want to know what I should look into so that I can get some nice, clean recordings, & I do mean modest. nothing fancy, because Im poor.
