Tacking with Vla 2

Ok heres what it is,

I have the vla set up in which i can compress an already recorded peformance but how do i set it up where i can be compressing while recording/tracking.

Im using an apogee ensemble.

Im sure t be connected a lil different ?

The ensemble has inserts on two of its mic pres, so attach your VLA to one of those.

As for the comp settings for tracking - unless you want to commit to something you can't undo; keep the ratio and threshold so that the compression is transparent. The Ensemble also has a soft clipper that will tame peaks, but this shouldn't be needed with the right comp settings.

Andy's got it spot on...the VLA is a great comp. You can hit it pretty hard, even in tracking, and it'll stay fairly transparent.
